Debt Help
Which kind of help actually fits what you owe
Not every kind of debt gets handled the same way, and not everyone who calls our office at 700 Lavaca Street needs a full program. This page is a short map of what's available, so you can call and ask about the right thing instead of guessing.
3 TYPES OF DEBT HELP
Broadly, what we handle from this office breaks into three groups: unsecured consumer debt like credit cards, student loan debt, and IRS tax debt. Each one has its own approach, and a counselor will tell you plainly which group your situation falls into before recommending anything.
Debt Consolidation
The general idea: combine what you owe into one monthly payment instead of several. Start here if you just want it explained.
Debt Management Plan
The structured plan behind a consolidation program: a counselor sets terms with your creditors and you pay one figure to the agency.
Credit Counseling
Education and a budget review, with or without a plan attached. Some callers just need this part.
Student Loan Debt Help
A separate track from credit card and consumer debt. Ask about it specifically when you call.
IRS Tax Debt Help
Owed tax debt is handled differently again from unsecured consumer debt. A counselor will tell you what's involved for your situation.
Pay Off Credit Card Debt
The same consolidation approach, angled specifically at credit card balances, if that's most of what you're carrying.

If you're not sure which page applies, just call
Most calls start the same way regardless of which page brought you here: a counselor asks what you owe, to whom, and how much you can put toward it each month. From there they'll tell you whether consolidation, a management plan, straight counseling, or one of the separate student loan or IRS tracks fits.
There's no credit check to have that conversation, and nothing gets signed on the first call. Office hours run Monday to Thursday 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM, Friday until 8:00 PM, and Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
